Floating Memories: Creating a Falklands Conflict Memorial Through Innovative Signage

How do you make postcards appear to float together to form a giant picture?

That was the challenge presented to Sapphire. Never one to shy away from complex projects, we held multiple design discussions and produced several prototypes to find the right solution. Working alongside an agency representing Royal British Legion, thousands of postcards were distributed to gather personal reflections on the Falklands conflict, 40 years after it took place.

These heartfelt messages were designed to form the reverse side of the final installation, adding emotional depth and historical significance. In addition to the main structure, a miniature version was also required for the Falkland Islands themselves.

After weeks of design development and technical problem-solving, we delivered a solution that met both the creative and logistical demands of the project.

The build was substantial, both in the factory and during on-site installation, followed by transportation to the National Memorial Arboretum, where it was displayed for several weeks. We successfully brought the vision to life, delighting the agency and all involved.

The memorial will now be moved to its permanent location for public viewing. Let Sapphire create your signage and deliver something truly unique—combining innovation, storytelling, and powerful visual impact inspired by the Falklands conflict.
